If you're new to heating oil, we realise there's a lot to consider. This page explains the basics of home heating oil, from what it actually is through to the delivery process.
Home heating oil usually comes in the form of kerosene, which is a relatively clean and efficient burn for home heating systems. Kerosene is also known as 28-second oil, or burning oil.
Some heating systems do still run on gas oil. These systems are mostly found in commercial and agricultural heating systems but a small number of home heating boilers - generally old systems - use gas oil instead of kerosene.

To ensure your home heating system is running efficiently, keep an eye on it regularly. A little effort can save a lot of trouble.
We recommend you check your oil tank level every week, that way you should never run out - especially during a cold snap! It's also important to get your order to us in plenty if time before you run out, especially during the busy winter months. We'd hate to think of our customers being left out in the cold!
